Ahead of Mahavir Jayanti, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took part in the Navkar Mahamantra Divas at Delhi’s Vigyan Bhawan, where he joined thousands in chanting the sacred Jain mantra. The event, seen as a spiritual lead-up to the festival celebrating Lord Mahavir’s birth, was marked by a nationwide and global participation, with over 6,000 locations in India and people from 108 countries joining the collective chant at 8:27 am, as urged by the PM.
PM Modi highlighted Jainism’s influence on the new Parliament building, noting the presence of a Tirthankara idol and a painting of Lord Mahavir in the Constitution Hall. On social media, he encouraged everyone to unite in chanting for peace, harmony, and brotherhood.
Speaking at the event, Modi described the Navkar Mahamantra as a powerful symbol of faith and self-realization. He shared his long-standing connection with Jain Acharyas from his early life in Gujarat and emphasized that the mantra teaches self-belief and inner victory over negativity, dishonesty, and selfishness—key values at the heart of Jain philosophy.
