HP India to begin local laptop, PC production in May, eyes output boost under PLI

HP India will start producing locally laptops, PCs, and all-in-one systems starting in May in association with Dixon Technologies. The company anticipates to almost double its production this year over the previous one due to the IT Hardware PLI scheme support, which it joined last year 2023.

Despite the criticism of India’s new import management regulations by the US, HP is optimistic about its India operations. HP views India as an integral part of its long-term strategy, not merely as a China alternative, and will expand its local manufacturing annually.

Though HP has not announced joining the new component-oriented PLI scheme, it seeks to contribute more value locally to its manufacturing. On the business front, commercial demand is expanding fast, particularly from large firms and MSMEs beyond big cities. HP is also facilitating small businesses with “HP Connects” centers that provide hardware and IT support.

On the consumer side, HP is experiencing robust growth in gaming, independent content creation, and education—industries where users are opting for powerful PCs for productivity and education from home.
