Thailand has launched an investigation into the collapse of a 33-story under-construction high-rise following a powerful 7.7 magnitude earthquake in Myanmar on Friday. The incident has sparked concerns over the building’s structural integrity, as it was being developed through a joint venture involving a Chinese firm.
Deputy Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul visited the site on Saturday, where at least 18 people have died, 33 have been injured, and 78 remain missing, most of them construction workers trapped under the debris.
Experts have expressed alarm, highlighting that it is unusual for an unfinished building to collapse so rapidly.
