F&O segment to add 45 new stocks tomorrow; lot size and other details awaited

The futures and options (F&O) contracts for 45 additional stocks will be available for trading starting November 29, as announced by the National Stock Exchange (NSE). Details such as lot size, strike price range, and freeze limits are expected to be shared via a circular on November 28.

With this inclusion, the total number of stocks in the F&O segment rises to 223. However, it remains unclear if any existing stocks will be excluded during this update. Notably, NSE reviews its indices biannually, and the availability of a stock in the F&O segment is a key criterion for potential inclusion in indices like Nifty 50.

Prominent new additions to the F&O list include LIC, Jio Financial Services, BSE, Avenue Supermarts, Adani Energy Solutions, Adani Green Energy, Nykaa, Paytm, YES Bank, and Zomato. NSE Managing Director and CEO Ashish Chauhan stated that the decision was algorithm-driven, with these stocks being included after meeting the liquidity and trading volume thresholds required for the derivative segment.

Notably, JM Financial has suggested that the inclusion of Zomato and Jio Financial Services in the F&O segment could pave the way for their addition to the Nifty 50 index during the March 2025 rebalancing. As per guidelines, a stock must be part of the F&O segment to qualify for consideration in the Nifty 50.

The move follows updated criteria for F&O inclusion and exclusion as revised by SEBI. This development is likely to attract increased interest in these stocks as traders can leverage derivatives to trade in them, alongside access to options contracts.
