Cloudburst triggers massive flash flood in Uttarkashi

A cloudburst in Dharali village, located in Uttarkashi, triggered a massive flash flood on Tuesday, sweeping away houses and cattle. Rescue efforts are currently ongoing.

A video shared on social media shows powerful water currents gushing down the village, while people can be heard shouting and panicking in the background.

The flood has badly damaged homes and buildings, and there are reports of people being trapped under debris. Another video shows raging water destroying homes and even toppling entire buildings, as terrified residents watch helplessly.

According to the Uttarkashi Police, the Kheer Ganga stream overflowed in the Harsil area, leading to destruction in Dharali village. The police, SDRF (State Disaster Response Force), Army, and other rescue teams are working at the scene.

News agency PTI reported that about 10–12 people may be trapped under the rubble, and 20–25 hotels and homestays might have been washed away.

The Uttarakhand government has sent the SDRF and Indian Army to help with rescue efforts. News18, quoting officials, said the floodwaters from the Khir Ganga river have hit the Dharali market area, and response teams have also been sent to Bhatwari.
