Bharti Airtel Signs Major Network Management Deal with Ericsson to Boost 5G Rollout

Bharti Airtel has signed a long-term agreement with Swedish company Ericsson to manage its nationwide network through a centralized Network Operations Center (NOC). This strengthens the existing partnership between the two companies and supports their joint efforts to accelerate 5G deployment in India.

The new deal builds on their earlier work together on Airtel’s 5G Core. Under this agreement, Ericsson will oversee the operations of Airtel’s entire network across technologies like 4G, 5G NSA (Non-Standalone), 5G SA (Standalone), Fixed Wireless Access, Private Networks, and Network Slicing. The focus will be on using advanced, intent-based operations and expanding the range of services Airtel can offer.

Randeep Sekhon, Airtel’s Chief Technology Officer, said, “We’re excited to deepen our collaboration with Ericsson to build a future-ready network that offers top-quality service. These technologies will help us handle the increasing demand for data in a digitally connected India.”

Ericsson is also helping Airtel expand its 4G and 5G networks and had previously secured a multi-billion-dollar expansion deal in December 2024.

“This new agreement highlights our dedication to supporting Airtel in providing the best customer experience,” said Andres Vicente, who heads Ericsson’s Southeast Asia, Oceania, and India markets. “With intent-based NOC operations, we’ll help Airtel expand its services and explore new revenue opportunities.”
