Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis warmly welcomed Tesla’s official entry into India, stating that the company made the ideal choice by launching in Maharashtra. Speaking at the grand opening, he expressed confidence that Tesla would build its full electric vehicle ecosystem in the state — from manufacturing to supply chains.
He praised Maharashtra’s strong EV infrastructure, attractive incentives, and potential to support Tesla’s R\&D and production goals. “Tesla will transform India’s electric mobility market, and we’re ready to be your partners on this journey,” he said.
Highlighting the state’s leadership in clean mobility, Fadnavis emphasized Maharashtra’s progressive policies and readiness to host EV investments. Addressing the audience in Marathi and Hindi, he noted that Tesla is setting up four supercharging stations and 32 other charging points across Mumbai.
“Maharashtra is preparing large-scale charging infrastructure and is leading in the EV space. I’m happy Tesla chose Mumbai. I’m sure both Mumbaikars and Indians will embrace Tesla,” he said.
Tesla has launched its first showroom — a 4,000-square-foot space in Bandra Kurla Complex — and introduced the Model Y in India, priced at ₹60 lakh, which is higher than its starting price in the U.S. (excluding tax credits), according to Bloomberg.
